Woman thinks she bought pocket bully—then discovers what breed he really is

A woman who thought she had bought a pocket bully puppy was in for a surprise when she noticed how much smaller he is than expected, only to realize that he is mixed with a very unexpected breed.

After sadly losing her 17-year-old Shih Tzu recently, Lisa O’Neill felt that emptiness that any grieving pet owner knows. It became clear that she wasn’t the only one who was devastated by the loss either, as her other dog, a pocket bully named Zeppi, also seemed sorrowful.

As a result, O’Neill, from the U.K, looked at getting another pup so that Zeppi “had a friend.” She told Newsweek that she saw some puppies that were being advertised as pocket bullies, so that seemed like a perfect fit. She bought one of them and named him Bear, but all wasn’t as it seemed.

“After a few days, we started to question if Bear was actually a pocket bully,” O’Neill said. “We find out that Bear is actually half-sausage dog and half-pocket bully, but that didn’t matter to me because I loved him from the second I saw him. He is probably the size of sausage dog, but a little chubbier.”

Bear’s dad is a sausage dog while his mom is a pocket bully, meaning he has the stature of a dachshund while looking as muscular as a bully. O’Neill said she doesn’t think her pup will grow much more, as she jokingly calls him her “sausage pocket.”

“I’m sad that he may have health issues along the way, but I will do all I can to take care of him,” she continued.

O’Neill shared a post on TikTok (@lisaoneill.90) about Bear’s unexpected breed reveal, and it went viral. In just a matter of days, the clip has generated over 413,000 views and more than 25,000 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.

The big reveal showing where Bear came from has certainly stunned internet users. Many people couldn’t get over how adorable the puppy is, while others criticized the unethical breeding that occurred.

O’Neill wasn’t aware of the cross breeding when she bought Bear. After making the discovery, she went back to look at the advertisement and noticed that the listing changed from pocket bullies to dachshund and pocket bully mixes. “We had our suspicions, but seeing the changed advertisement confirmed it,” O’Neill said.

Bear is part of the family now, and O’Neill added that he has been “the best addition.” Everyone who meets Bear utterly adores him, and the sweet pup would never say no to the attention.

“We can’t walk anywhere without people stopping us or even taking pictures of Bear because he’s so beautiful,” O’Neill said.

“Bear is the loveliest dog. He cries to be picked up, and I allow it because he is my baby. He has his own blanket he sleeps with right next to my head and he takes his backpack with his treats in whenever we visit other people’s houses,” she continued.

Many TikTok users took to the comments to share their reactions to Bear, leading to more than 220 responses on the post so far.

One comment reads: “He’s absolutely gorgeous! I was wondering what I was going to swipe to when I seen the 2 dogs so different but wow.”

Another TikTok user said: “Omg [oh my God] I need him.”

But not everyone was so positive, as one commenter replied: “Please stop buying backyard bred dogs.”
