AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Williamson County District Attorney’s Office announced it was partnering with the Human Trafficking Institute to help boost efforts against human trafficking and child exploitation. The effort was part of an enforcement initiative in Texas.
The DA’s office said the partnership launched Monday with a three-day training.
“This intensive training equipped local prosecutors and law enforcement officers with knowledge on Texas-specific legal frameworks, proactive victim identification, advanced investigative methods, trauma-informed engagement, the use of digital evidence, and effective multidisciplinary collaboration,” the DA’s office said.
According to the DA’s office, the multi-year partnership would allow the county to “expand and strengthen [its] ability to combat human trafficking, commercial sexual exploitation, and related child exploitation crimes.”
The county anticipates the partnership will enhance its capacity to identify victims, conduct investigations and bring traffickers to justice, as well as provide specialized training, access to subject-matter experts and tools designed for prosecutors and law enforcement.
“Human trafficking is a heinous crime that devastates lives,” Williamson County DA Shawn Dick said. “Through this partnership with HTI, we are giving our prosecutors and law enforcement partners the tools, strategies, and training they need to ensure traffickers are held accountable and victims receive the protection and justice they deserve.”
