AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Water crews were working to repair a water main break in west Austin on Friday, according to the department.
Austin Water said the water main break in the 3400 block of Hancock Drive does not appear to have impacted water service for customers at this time.
A full road closure was put in place at the intersection of Balcones Drive and Hancock Drive. The water department asked drivers and pedestrians to follow detour signs and to use alternate routes.
“Crews are working as quickly and safely as possible,” an Austin Water spokesperson said.
Austin Water said once crews have assessed the break, repairs will begin.
By 8 p.m. Friday, Austin Water said crews were still working to repair the water main break and would remain in the area through the weekend, if necessary.
On Saturday, Austin Water announced that crews had pinpointed the location of the break.
“[Crews] excavated and pumped out the site to expose the break and place proper safety shoring,” Austin Water said. “Repairs to the broken main and excavated street are expected to be completed by Monday morning.”
