US volunteers Ty Wingate Jones and Brian Zacherl killed in Ukraine

Ty Wingate Jones and Brian Zacherl, two American volunteers fighting for Ukraine with an international legion, died in early December. Their deaths were confirmed in social media posts by family members.

“All of us are heartbroken, but very proud,” wrote Michael Zacherl, who said Brian was his nephew, in a post on Facebook confirming his death in Ukraine.

“These days selfishness seems to be popular, so Brian’s sacrifice seems a little more heroic. The memory of his warm heart makes our grieving a little easier.”

Amber Jones, sister of Ty, said her brother was killed when a Russian drone hit a medical armoured personnel carrier he was with. She said he left behind a pregnant wife.

“No family should have to endure this much pain,” she wrote on Facebook.
