‘Super Troopers 3’ Adds Sakina Jaffrey, Jon Rudnitsky & Lisa Gilroy

EXCLUSIVE: Production has wrapped on Super Troopers 3, the latest installment in the franchise from comedy troupe Broken Lizard and Searchlight Pictures, which has added three to its cast: Sakina Jaffrey (The Equalizer 2), Jon Rudnitsky (Home Again), and Lisa Gilroy (The Studio).

Character details are under wraps, as is the plot of the threequel. Broken Lizard’s Jay Chandrasekhar directed from a script written by the group, with franchise veteran Richard Perello producing.

In addition to Chandrasekhar, Broken Lizard’s Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske all star once again. Others in the cast include Brian Cox, Marisa Coughlan, Nat Faxon, Chace Crawford, Andrew Dismukes, Hannah Simone, and Iqbal Theba.

Creative Executive Apolline Berty, VP Production Richard Ruiz and Creative Executive Daniel Yu are overseeing the project for Searchlight, reporting into Co-Heads of Film Production & Development DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas.

The cult hit comedy franchise Super Troopers revolves around the shenanigans of a group of Vermont state troopers who are slacker pranksters first and foremost. The first film released through Fox Searchlight in 2001, after being acquired at Sundance Film Festival and going on to win the Audience Award at SXSW. Super Troopers 2 arrived 17 years later and, like the original film, was directed by Chandrasekhar, with the entire Broken Lizard crew writing and starring.

Known for work in comedies like Ghosts, Deli Boys, Goosebumps, The Mindy Project and Raising Helen, Jaffrey’s dramatic work includes House of Cards, Billions, and The Equalizer 2. She boasts a whopping 75 credits, nearly four decades into her career, and is repped by Greene Talent.

Rudnitsky is a comedian, actor, and writer who’s been seen in films including Home Again, Set It Up, and Red One, as well as Saturday Night Live, Catch-22, and The Big Leap. He tours nationally as a stand-up, with credits including Conan, Comedy Central, and Just for Laughs, and is repped by Gersh, Ayala Cohen Management, and Granderson Des Rochers.

Breaking out as part of the Emmy-nominated Jury Duty, Gilroy’s also been seen in Twisted Metal, Black Mirror, The Studio, Running Point, and Taika Waititi’s Interior Chinatown. Other recent series credits include A Man on the Inside and Shrinking. Most recently wrapping on films including Office Romance, opposite Jennifer Lopez, and You Deserve Each Other with Megan Fahy and Penn Badgley, she is repped by OPE Partners, WME, and Ziffren Brittenham.
