SMPD investigating homicide, suspect not in custody

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The San Marcos Police Department is investigating a homicide, and the agency said a suspect is not in custody, according to a social media post from the agency.

According to police, while there isn’t a shelter-in-place order, they recommend that residents “remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.”

Around 4 p.m., SMPD said it was at the scene of an “active investigation” in the 800 block of River Road. Officers remained on the scene as of 5 p.m.

San Marcos Consolidated Independent School buses “will experience significant delays” in that area, according to police.

Police are asking families to “arrange alternative transportation and pick up” for their students from their campuses “out of an abundance of caution.”

No other details were available Friday. Check back for updates.
