Russia regains control of Kursk from Ukraine, Putin says

Russia regained control of Kursk, the border region overtaken in a surprise incursion by Ukraine last year, President Vladimir Putin has claimed.

“The Kyiv regime’s adventure has completely failed,” Putin said Saturday, according to reports.

Kyiv did not immediately respond to Putin’s claim.

Ukrainian troops were still operating in Kursk, the general staff of Ukraine’s armed forces said earlier Saturday.

Ukraine has been losing ground in the ongoing conflict after gaining hundreds of square miles in August, as Putin has touted Moscow’s retaking of major settlements in the region.
