Ozzy Osbourne Tribute Set For 2025 MTV VMAs With Aerosmith, Yungblood, Nuno Bettencourt

The 2025 MTV VMAs will pay tribute to legendary Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne with a performance by Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Yongblud and Nuno Bettencourt. They will take the stage Sunday to honor Osbourne with a medley of his greatest hits.

Yungblud, Tyler and Bettencourt were among the artists who joined Osbourne in his Back to the Beginning concert just weeks before his death. Osbournce died July 22 of a heart attack at the age of 76.

With more than 120 million albums sold nationwide, Osbourne was a five-time Grammy winner, two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, both with Black Sabbath in 2006 and as a solo artist in 2024, with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Birmingham Walk of Stars, among other honors.

His long history with MTV dates back to the ’80s with Headbanger’s Ball. His reality TV show Battle for Ozzfest aired for one season in 2004. In it, eight bands competed through a series of challenges for a place among the lineup in the metal festival, Ozzfest.

In 2002, MTV premiered The Osbournes, a verité-style reality series focusing on the home life of patriarch Ozzy, matriarch Sharon Osbourne, daughter Kelly and son Jack. The show provided a side of the singer few had seen — a bit doddering, sometimes befuddled and the source of the series’ comedy. The show won the Emmy for Outstanding Non-Fiction Program (Reality) in 2002 and was nominated again the following year. Its final episode aired on March 21, 2005.

Hosted by LL Cool J, the 2025 MTV VMAs also will feature performances by Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, Post Malone, Doja Cat, Ricky Martin, who will be honored with the VMAs Latin Icon Award, Busta Rhymes, who will receive the inaugural Rock the Bells Visionary Award and Mariah Carey, who will receive the Video Vanguard Award.

The awards show will air live coast-to-coast from New York’s UBS Arena, airing Sunday, Sept. 7 at 8 PM, ET/5 PM, PT on CBS, simulcast on MTV and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S.
