Owner can’t cope as dog with injured paw gets “protected” by cat sibling

What a doting cat does when his canine brother’s paw is injured has delighted internet viewers.
The pet owner, who uses the social media tag @daxntoulouse, shared a video of her tabby cat Toulouse and her dog Dax. The TikTok clip has already garnered over 176,000 views and more than 26,000 likes.
“When your big brother has a cut on his paw so you protect it at all costs,” the owner wrote as the text overlaying the video. “I can’t believe I caught this interaction on camera. Dax has a cut on his paw so Toulouse was trying to make sure it was well protected under the blanket,” she captioned the post.
The video shows the beige dog lying on a bed, his injured paw wrapped in a sock. Toulouse carefully paws around the area and then pulls the blanket over it, as if tucking his sibling in.
While cats and dogs are often thought of as natural rivals, experts say that they can form close bonds. Those at pet-food manufacturer Purina say that cats and dogs are capable of becoming the best of friends, particularly if they grow up together or are introduced in a calm, gradual way. Their companionship can offer emotional comfort and even help reduce stress levels for both pets.
Felines may also be more perceptive than many realize. Research highlighted by Catster shows that cats can sense pain and discomfort in humans. They often react with protective or nurturing behaviors—such as staying close, grooming, or in this case, covering an injury.

The wholesome video sparked a flood of reactions from TikTok viewers.
“We gotta hide this from the predators, bro,” posted one user.
“Why are animals such angels?! Your cat really WAS trying to help and now I’m crying,” commented Enriette.
“Uhh guys cats do that when something stinks and they don’t like it so they bury it,” wrote another viewer.
One person shared a similar experience: “When I broke my foot back in 2014, my eldest cat would not let my kitten near my foot. He was so strict about it because he could tell how much I was hurting.”
