The reigning national champion Ohio State Buckeyes are rolling through the 2025 season, winning each of their first eight games.

The Buckeyes’ defense is the best in college football, allowing just 214.8 yards and 6.9 points per game. The offense, led by sophomore quarterback Julian Sayin, is also catching its stride as one of the best units in the nation.

Through his first eight games as Ohio State’s starting quarterback, Sayin has 2,188 yards, 23 touchdowns and three interceptions — leading the Big Ten with an 80.7 completion percentage.

In this past Saturday’s 38-14 win over the Penn State Nittany Lions, Sayin completed 20 of his 23 pass attempts for 316 yards and four touchdowns.

During his media availability on Wednesday, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said Sayin is “just getting started.”

“He’s just getting started, which is very exciting for all of us, as you know,” Day said, via Bucknuts.

“He’s put himself in a situation to allow us to reach our goals,” Day added. “If he continues to play the way he’s playing and then continue to improve, because as we know, the challenges are gonna keep getting bigger and bigger. But I think it’s clear to see that he is now playing at a level that we feel like we can reach our goals with.

“And so that’s obviously exciting for everybody and builds confidence around the entire offense. But to say, what have we accomplished, we haven’t accomplished anything. We’re in the middle of the season and got a lot of football ahead of us.”

Sayin is the odds favorite to win this year’s Heisman Trophy, leading a group featuring Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, Alabama’s Ty Simpson and Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed.

With Sayin at the helm, the No. 1 Buckeyes will look to continue their unbeaten season in a road-game matchup against the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday.
