Nyara Sabally ‘progressing’ as her Liberty injury recovery takes next step

PHOENIX — Most of the work Nyara Sabally has put in over the past month while she’s been sidelined with a nagging right knee issue has happened behind the curtains.

She’s been doing stationary shooting and not much more outside of treatment.

But the Liberty’s shootaround Saturday ahead of their pivotal game against the Mercury that night offered a sight for sore eyes.

With her team going over the final details on one end, Sabally was on the other side putting up shots out of subtle movement — backpedaling to the elbow — in the next step of her ramp-up process.

The Liberty haven’t shared many details regarding Sabally’s right knee.

Sabally revealed in early June that she had a platelet-rich plasma injection in the knee to help with pain and swelling.

Sabally has been limited to 15 games this season and hasn’t played since July 16, which was the Liberty’s final game before the All-Star break.

Sandy Brondello said the team hoped to have her back before the regular season ends Sept. 11.

After shootaround, the head coach told The Post that it’s nice to see her making progress.

“Obviously, we think highly of Nyara, and we feel for her because she’s had some tough runs with injuries. Before she got injured, she was playing great that day,” Brondello said. “So yeah, it’s progressing. … Better late than never.”
