NFL Insider Portrays Positive Outlook on Terry McLaurin Saga

In these final weeks before the 2025 season begins, the Washington Commanders still have a pressing issue to attend to. After months of failed negotiations, Terry McLaurin remains without a contract extension. Though things haven’t resolved themselves yet, there’s growing optimism he could be on the field Week 1.

McLaurin has eyed a deal on par with the current wide receiver market, but the Commanders have been hesitant to offer such a sizable salary. They are aware he’s one of the most consistent talents at his position, but his age is a cause for concern. With McLaurin’s 30th birthday just around the corner, there is no telling how his production will look over the course of a long-term deal.

Shortly after making his return to training camp, reports emerged that McLaurin requested a trade. Washington quickly shut down any notion of him being moved, making it clear that they won’t be entertaining offers for their homegrown star.

Ian Rapoport portrays positive outlook on Terry McLaurin’s situation

On Monday afternoon, NFL insider Ian Rapoport made an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. Among the array of topics he touched on was McLaurin’s ongoing situation in Washington.

Though he cited the two sides might remain slightly apart in price, he noted they are hard at work trying to get something done before the season gets underway.

“My sense is it’s around or a little under 30,” Rapoport said when asked about Washington’s offer to McLaurin. “They both have arguments, but I think they are trying to do it. I think they are also in that all-in mode because they got the lottery ticket too.”

The aforementioned lottery ticket is quarterback Jayden Daniels. In his rookie season, he nearly led the Commanders to a Super Bowl appearance. Understanding they have a budding superstar on their hands, the Commanders were busy this offseason upgrading the cast of talent around Daniels. The final piece remains getting his top target back in the mix.

In the event that a deal comes about, McLaurin is in a position to enter the fold quickly. While talks haven’t gained much ground, there have been positive developments regarding his health. After being put on the PUP list due to an ankle injury, Washington moved him to the active roster over the weekend.
