Michael Irvin Doesn’t Hold Back After Miami’s Upset CFP Win Over Ohio State

The Miami Hurricanes entered Wednesday night’s College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes as 7.5-point underdogs, according to DraftKings Sportsbook, but emerged with a convincing 24-14 victory after leading from start to finish.

While many picked Ohio State to advance, Miami had one unwavering supporter in legendary Hurricanes wide receiver Michael Irvin, who was on the sideline for the game alongside fellow Miami icon Ray Lewis.

Irvin had predicted a Miami win, and throughout the season’s biggest moments, he has consistently been front and center cheering on the Hurricanes. That passion was on full display after the game, when Irvin removed his belt and made a celebratory gesture toward the remaining Buckeyes fans still inside the stadium.

“BTA,” Irvin wrote on X, referencing the “belt to [expletive]” expression.

Irvin also recorded a video at midfield shortly after the game that he shared on social media, which quickly went viral.

“Hey, it is December 31st and we’re about to flip the calendar,” Irvin said following Miami’s win. “But we will no longer say Happy New Year. We will say, Happy ‘U’ year!”

Miami has now pulled off wins as underdogs against both Texas A&M and Ohio State to punch their ticket to the semifinals next week. It’s all but certain that Irvin will be in attendance to cheer on the Hurricanes, who will face the winner of Thursday night’s matchup between the Ole Miss Rebels and Georgia Bulldogs.
