Mavericks linked to trading Anthony Davis back to Los Angeles

Anthony Davis and the Dallas Mavericks have gotten off to a rough start to the 2025-26 NBA season. Recently, the team made the decision to fire general manager Nico Harrison, who has been on the hot seat with the franchise since he made the blockbuster trade to send Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers with Davis being the main centerpiece of the return.

Since joining the Mavericks, Davis has dealt with multiple injury issues. He has played in just five of the team’s 11 games so far this season.

With that in mind, some rumblings have started coming up about Davis’ future in Dallas. Could the Mavericks actually consider trading him before the upcoming deadline?

That remains to be seen, but it’s something to monitor as the trade deadline comes up.

A new suggestion has come up for a potential trade destination if Dallas was open to trading Davis. It would be a move that sees him head back to Los Angeles, but this time with the Los Angeles Clippers.

NBA insider Zach Lowe has suggested the Clippers as a possible fit. He even came up with an idea of what a potential trade package could look like between the two teams.

In his suggestion, Lowe would have Davis being sent to Los Angeles in exchange for John Collins, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and either Brook Lopez or Derrick Jones Jr.

“The Clippers, who are also hard capped at the first apron and not that far under it, which makes the math very difficult. Well, you’d have to build it around Collins, Bogdanovic, Brook Lopez or Derrick Jones Jr. as the third guy… And even that comes up a little short of how much the Clippers would need to send out to stay clear of the first apron. I don’t know that you’re getting like three unprotected first-round picks,” Lowe said.

Davis has averaged 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game in five appearances this season. Last year in nine 51 games between the Lakers and Mavericks, he averaged 24.7 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.2 blocks, and 1.2 steals.

There is a legitimate chance that Dallas will have no interest in moving Davis. However, if the Mavericks are open to the idea, the Clippers could be a logical suitor.
