Man ran at ex-girlfriend's car with pickaxe before being shot, police say

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man is dead after allegedly running up to his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle with a pickaxe, police said.

Austin police officers responded to a 911 call about a shooting at an apartment complex on North Lamar Boulevard, near West Parmer Lane, around 4:40 a.m. Saturday.

When they arrived, officers found a man, later identified as 30-year-old Henry Martinez, in the parking lot with apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead shortly after.

According to the investigation, police believe Martinez ran up to his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle with a pickaxe and was shot by another man who was inside the vehicle. Police have not said whether that man will face charges, but the investigation is ongoing.
