Man Excited For Birthday Trip With Brother—Until He Discovers ‘Sneaky’ Plan

A birthday outing at a popular theme park has sparked tension between two brothers, with one now questioning whether staying silent is the right choice.

On Reddit, user Electrical_Lunch_217, a 37-year-old man, appealed for advice about a recent discovery regarding his 36-year-old brother and the age of the girl he’s dating

The original poster (OP) admits his brother’s relationship is technically legal, but still troubling.

He described the 22-year-old girlfriend as “extremely sheltered” and said she still lives at home with very controlling religious parents who disapprove of the relationship and the 14-year age gap.

“But my brother is continuing to see her anyway and being sneaky about it,” the OP said.

According to the post, the parents track their daughter’s phone and monitor her whereabouts. As a result, the brother has had to hide the relationship and meet her discreetly.

The OP wrote that he has tried to stay out of it and “keep the peace,” even when asked for his opinion.

Birthday Trip

Tension escalated during a recent birthday trip to Universal’s Nintendo park. The OP later learned that his brother’s girlfriend and her family were at the park the same day.

He said his brother had been texting her throughout the visit and that their groups crossed paths multiple times, sometimes riding the same attractions, without his knowledge.

The discovery left him unsettled and questioning whether the day had truly been about his birthday.

The OP ended asking whether he should stop sugarcoating his feelings and tell his brother that he finds the 14-year age gap “creepy.”

Two brothers arguing

‘Please step in’

Many commentators on Reddit focused on the secrecy rather than the vacation itself amid almost 500 comments over 10 days.

“The fact that he is sneaking around sounds creepy enough without adding in the age gap,” a pundit shared.

Others suggested the man should address the issue directly.

“I don’t think he’ll listen to you,” a contributor reasoned, “But I think it would be healthier for you if you spoke up about it. It’s definitely weird.

“And this girl… well… she doesn’t know it yet, but it’s a problem her because she so inexperienced.”

Meanwhile, a fellow Redditor shared a personal story: “I was 21 dating a 38 year old. My first relationship. I [wasn’t] sheltered like this girl is, but no one stepped in. Please step in.”

Sibling Disputes Over Romantic Partners

Disagreements between siblings over significant others do flare up online.

Newsweek reported about a man who was praised over his decision to ban his brother’s girlfriend from a family event, after she was invited while the relatives were all still mourning the loss of his longtime girlfriend, who died just a few months earlier.

Newsweek also covered a man who was cheered by others for telling his brother’s girlfriend that she could no longer shower at his home, after he noticed she was spending more than 30 minutes in the facility.

Newsweek has reached out to Electrical_Lunch_217 for comment via Reddit. We could not verify the details of the case.
