[ad_1]
AUSTIN (KXAN) – Storm chasers are vital members of the weather community, providing a boots-on-the-ground perspective of dangerous storms of all types. These highly-trained spotters can often provide life-saving information with their eyewitness perspectives.
Meteorologist Kristen Currie had the opportunity to speak with Gabe Cox, a veteran storm chaser and valued member of the KXAN First Warning Weather team.
Cox has been through some of the worst of the worst, including Category 5 Hurricane Michael (2008), Hurricane Ida (2021), Hurricane Laura (2020), and Hurricane Harvey (2017).
He’s also been in the right place at the right time to capture numerous tornadoes, including the Granger tornado that occurred during the Central Texas Tornado Outbreak of March 2022. He’s also been on the ground for tornadoes that occurred in Briggs, Killeen, and Waco.
Cox’s work has been featured in dozens of TV programming, including Netflix’s EarthStorm, The Weather Channel’s Weather Gone Viral and BBC’s World’s Deadliest Weather.
Since 2011, Cox has been documenting everything from hurricanes to tornadoes. He’s recently founded a podcast to talk about life behind the lens, going in-depth on meteorology of these storms and giving listeners a first-hand account of what it’s like to see these monster forces of Mother Nature up close.
