EXCLUSIVE: LA-based outfit The Film Collaborative (TFC) has boarded Southeast Asian ballroom documentary 10s Across The Borders, which had its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival.
The film is the directorial feature of Sze-Wei Chan, and produced by Alemberg Ang, Chan, Tan Si En, Yasmin C. Rams and Sophia Sim.
10s Across The Borders is a hybrid dance film and observational documentary, following the struggles of three trailblazers in the underground ballroom scenes of Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines, as they hold on to their ballroom and birth families, and connect with the subculture’s origin in New York City.
The film stars Xyza Pinklady Mizrahi, Teddy Oricci, and Aurora Sun Labeija.
Co-production companies include the Philippines’ Daluyong Studios, Singapore’s Momo Film Co and Minri Media, alongside Germany’s Perennial Lens.
TFC previously partnered Andrew Ahn’s The Wedding Banquet (Sundance 2025), Daniel Raim’s The Ozu Diaries (Venice, 2025) and Errol Morris’ Separated (Venice 2024), for distribution, among others.
“The Film Collaborative has a long and well-documented history working with queer cinema, films from the Southeast Asian diaspora, and also films celebrating ballroom/voguing communities around the world,” said TFC’s co-executive director Jeffrey Winter. “This makes 10s Across The Borders absolutely perfect for our mission and for our experience, and we are extremely proud to board this wonderful debut feature.”
Executive Producer Gugi Gumilang said: “We are thrilled to partner with The Film Collaborative as we build on the incredible momentum from our Busan premiere. TFC’s passion for our film and their proven track record with international auteurs make the ideal team to champion 10s Across the Borders and connect it with audiences around the world.”
Producer Alemberg Ang added: “I can’t believe that TFC is coming on board. Our team did the film to highlight the underground ballroom and vogue artists from Southeast Asia. And now, with the collaboration with TFC, we are sure to reach more people, especially in North America. The development affirms the growth of Southeast Asian cinema. I’m so happy we are getting more avenues to showcase Southeast Asian films.”
