AUSTIN (KXAN) — It was Cole Taylor’s world Thursday at The Pfield, and everyone else was watching him live in it.
The Pflugerville quarterback threw six touchdown passes and ran for another in the Panthers’ 55-20 district win over Elgin, moving them to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in District 11-5A2.
Taylor capped off his huge night with a 32-yard scoring pass to sophomore Tyrone McGill with 9:19 left in the game before letting the backup finish. It was McGill’s third touchdown reception of the game, hauling in passes from 37 and 33 yards to go with the late score.
Early on, the teams traded punches. The Panthers got on the board with Taylor’s first touchdown pass, a 13-yarder to Qualyn Penson, but the Wildcats responded with a methodical drive that ended in a Michael Mejias 2-yard run.
The Panthers moved ahead 21-14 on a Timothy Edwards 4-yard run, and then the floodgates opened. Elgin lost a fumble on the next drive, and the Panthers capitalized. Taylor hit McGill for a 37-yard score, and then tacked on another when he found Penson again for a 7-yard touchdown. By halftime, Pflugerville built a 34-14 lead.
Elgin’s Jeremiah Nicholson scored on a 14-yard run in the first half, and then he added a 21-yard touchdown pass to Andre Simmons in the third quarter.
Pflugerville (4-2, 2-0) has a bye next week and then takes on McCallum on Oct. 10. Elgin (0-5, 0-2) also has a bye next week and then plays Liberty Hill on Oct. 10.
