AUSTIN (KXAN) — A major upset in the ACC has once again shifted the Heisman Trophy odds for the 2025 season, removing Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck and bringing two new candidates into the conversation for the best player in the country.
2025 Heisman Trophy odds via FanDuel
- Ty Simpson, +320
- Fernando Mendoza, +340
- Julian Sayin, +400
- Marcel Reed, +750
- Diego Pavia, +800
After a 24-21 loss to Louisville, Beck’s odds in the Heisman race took a serious blow, dropping to +5500, after his odds were +290 a week ago. His four-interception, no-touchdown game against the Cardinals was enough to see the Miami transfer drop 10 spots in FanDuel’s Heisman odds.
Taking over the top spot for Beck is Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson, who led now No. 4 Alabama to a 37-20 win over then No. 11 Tennessee this past Saturday. In the game, Simpson completed 19 of 29 pass attempts, threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns. Simpson now leads the SEC in passing touchdowns with 18 and is second in passing yards, with 1,931.
Behind Simpson is Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who has looked impressive with Curt Cignetti’s Hoosiers. Indiana is recently coming off a 38-13 win over Michigan State, where Mendoza threw the ball 28 times, completing 24 of his passes, yielding 332 passing yards and four passing touchdowns.
Ohio State freshman quarterback Julian Sayin is moving up as well, turning heads with his performances with the Buckeyes this season. He takes over third in odds. Ohio State joins Indiana as the only remaining undefeated teams in the Big Ten, after a 34-0 routing of Wisconsin last Saturday.
The fourth and fifth spots have changed with Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed behind Sayin. Reed has pushed A&M to a spectacular start to the season as the lone undefeated team in the SEC.
Behind Reed is Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, who threw for 160 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 86 yards and two touchdowns in a win against LSU. The Commodores have lost only one game this year, falling to the Crimson Tide 30-14 on Oct. 4. If Pavia can help maintain Vanderbilt’s winning trajectory, then perhaps he will have a new trophy to add to his collection.
