Gov. Abbott rallies behind Trump's decision to deploy Texas National Guard to Illinois, Oregon

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said he authorizes President Donald Trump to deploy 400 members of the Texas National Guard to Illinois, Oregon and other states to “ensure safety for federal officials.”
Abbott’s post is a response to Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s social media post about the President’s decision. He called on Abbott to withdraw support for the decision and refuse coordination.
“There is no reason a President should send military troops into a sovereign state without their knowledge, consent, or cooperation,” Pritzker said.
Abbott stood by his decision, saying the Texas troops “defend our country with pride.”
“You can either fully enforce protection for federal employees or get out of the way and let Texas Guard do it,” Abbott said. “No Guard can match the training, skill, and expertise of the Texas National Guard.”
Abbott also touted that Texas currently has thousands of National Guard assisting with Border Security.
Along with deploying Texas Troops, the Associated Press said that Trump is also sending at least 300 California National Guard members to Oregon. This comes a day after an Oregon judge temporarily blocked the Trump administration from deploying members of Oregon’s guard to Portland, AP said.
