Florida student’s apartment goes viral over sight from bedroom windows

A stunning lake view from the bedroom of a Florida apartment has captivated viewers on Reddit.

The post, shared by u/spicy-agedashi-tofu on the subreddit r/CozyPlaces, was uploaded on September 29 with the caption: “Used to wake up to this and go to bed to that for 1.5 years.” It has since amassed 18,000 upvotes and over 300 comments, with users praising the breathtaking view.

In later comments, the poster revealed the high-rise apartment was located in downtown Orlando near Lake Eola and said they lived there while completing a Ph.D. dissertation.

The post features images taken from the bedroom with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking downtown Orlando and the tree-lined waters of Lake Eola.

“It was a blessing! I was a PhD student finishing my dissertation, the view helped a lot,” the user wrote, later adding that “the floor-to-ceiling window and the view made me feel like I was already enjoying the outside.”

The viral post emerges as renters across the United States face significant affordability challenges. Nearly half of all U.S. renter households—49 percent—are considered cost-burdened, meaning they spend more than 30 percent of their income on housing, according to a 2024 report from the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University. That includes roughly 12.1 million households who are “severely cost-burdened,” spending over half their income on rent and utilities.

The report also noted that rising mortgage interest rates and elevated home prices have priced many households out of homeownership altogether. Home prices increased in 97 of the top 100 housing markets, with the sharpest spikes occurring in the Northeast and Midwest.

Despite the premium view, the Redditor noted the apartment was relatively affordable at the time due to corporate housing benefits. “It was affordable, considering we came from the Pacific Northwest. My partner’s company provided the accommodation. I just checked the building website, and the unit (1BR/1B) [one bedroom, one bathroom] is now ~$2,200/mo [month],” they wrote.

Reactions from other users came quickly, with many expressing awe and envy.

“This is a dream view!” said u/NortheastBro, and u/No_Lifeguard_8474 agreed, noting: “Yeah that view is wild.”

“My god this is sooo stunning!” wrote u/Your_Nightmare_666.

Another, u/sulkychameleon, commented: “Wow, I would never get tired of that view, that lake is just gorgeous, bet the sunrises are unreal.”

Others chimed in with similar sentiments. “I once had a killer view like this. I found myself not wanting to leave the house,” wrote u/golgol12.

The original poster has since relocated but reflected fondly on their time living above Lake Eola. “We moved to a different city with a city view, but since then had moved to a townhome, where we had a lot of space but sadly no view. But we’re 10 minutes away from a beach… so there’s that,” they shared.
