The Venice-set finale of Emily in Paris Season 5 honors late assistant director Diego Borella in the credits following his passing on set of the Paramount Television Studios show earlier this year.

Borella, an Italian crew member, collapsed during preparation for a final scene shot at Hotel Danieli, and filming was temporarily paused as a result in August.

“It was such a tragic, moment, and he was part of our Italian crew in Venice, but we’re all a family, and we really wanted to honor him, to dedicate the last episode to him,” creator Darren Star told Deadline in an interview about Season 5.

The locally hired 3rd AD on Emily in Paris, Borella’s previous work included the medical drama DOC – Nelle tue mani (DOC – In Your Hands) in 2022.

Venice was the final stop for Lily Collins’ Emily in crew as she and bestie Mindy Chen (Ashley Park) helped their boyfriends Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) and Nicolas De Léon) prepare for Marcello Muratori’s debut at Venice Fashion Week. Following Season 4’s branch out into Rome, Season 5 started there before heading to Paris, and finally the City of Canals.

Some pesky aqua alta forces them to pivot the catwalk concept slightly, but throwing in pairs of rain boots offers a new opportunity for the models to show off Marcello’s designs.

A few moments in the finale suggest that, should the show be renewed for a sixth season, Emily and Mindy could find themselves in Greece.
