Denmark prime minister: ‘The US has no right to annex’ Greenland

Mette Frederiksen, Denmark Prime Minister has told President Donald Trump to “stop the threats” regarding a Greenland takeover.

“It makes absolutely no sense to talk about the need for the United States to take over Greenland,” Frederiksen told the BBC Sunday,  adding, “The US has no right to annex any of the three nations in the Danish kingdom.”

The comment comes following frequent statements made by Trump about wanting to take over the island owned by Denmark in the North Atlantic.

Following the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, Trump has said he would still like to gain control of Greenland, telling The Atlantic in a phone interview Sunday “We do need Greenland, absolutely.”

Trump continued to say that Greenland is “surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships.”
