EXCLUSIVE: Critical Content has two new bosses.
The company, which is behind Netflix’s Sylvester Stallone documentary Sly and drama series Ginny & Georgia, has promoted Rob Lobl and Tony Yates as dual company leads.
It comes four months after the departure of President Jenny Daly, who left to join American Ninja Warrior producer A. Smith & Co.
Lobl will oversee creative, development and current projects, while Yates will run physical production. Separately, Sean Bangert has been promoted to EVP, Business and Legal Affairs.
Lobl, who was EVP, Development, has been with Critical Content for over six years and has worked on series including Peacock’s Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together as well as The Great Food Truck Race, The One and Very Cavallari. Before Critical Content, he was at T Group Productions, where he oversaw Ozzy and Jack’s World Detour and Mystery Diners.
Yates, who was EVP, Head of Prodction, has been with the company for over six years, overseeing all productions across the company’s slate. Previously, he was CEO of Zodiak Los Angeles and COO of RDF USA. He has also worked on series including HBO’s Project Greenlight after beginning his career in domestic syndication at Paramount Pictures.
Bangert, who was Head of Business and Legal Affairs, has been with Critical Content for over four years, having previously worked at Reveille and Playboy Entertainment.
Critical Content is also behind NBC’s Celebrity Game Face, Discovery’s Survive the Raft, Oxygen’s Deadly Waters with Captain Lee and Netflix’s Get Organized with The Home Edit, which was produced with Reese Witherspoon and Emily Sims. It also produced the recently canceled Catfish for MTV.
The company is owned by SK Global, the film financier behind Crazy Rich Asians and Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell rom-com Anyone But You.
Earlier this year, it promoted CFO Matt Aragachi to president.
“Rob and Tony bring complementary expertise and a proven track record that uniquely positions them to lead Critical Content into its next chapter. Their leadership ensures the studio can continue delivering bold, high-quality programming while leveraging the global resources of SK Global,” said Aragachi and Jeannine Tang, COO & General Counsel, SK Global. “At the same time, Sean’s promotion reflects the vital role he has played in strengthening our business and legal operations as we scale. Together, this team is well-equipped to navigate the evolving marketplace and drive the company’s next phase of growth.”
