Cris Abrego Re-Elected As Television Academy Chair

Cris Abrego will continue as chair of the Television Academy for a second consecutive term, the Board of Governors announced Friday.
He’ll be joined by Jacob Fenton (Professional Representatives), Vice Chair; Jo DiSante (Television Executives), 2nd Vice Chair; Megan Chao (Documentary Programming), Secretary; and Tony Carey (Producers), Treasurer for a two-year term beginning Jan. 1 2026 through 2027.
In his first term, Abrego oversaw the launch of the Televerse festival. He’s also credited with advancing the Academy’s industry advocacy work, including direct engagement with policymakers in Washington, D.C.; and strengthening the Innovation Advisory Committee, broadening member education around AI and emerging technology. Additionally, the past two Emmys telecasts, first on ABC and then on CBS, saw consecutive years of ratings increases.
The veteran studio executive and producer is co-founder and chief executive officer of Hyphenate Media Group. He previously served as Chairman and CEO of Banijay Americas and prior to that Chairman and CEO of Endemol Shine North America..
