Couple find “malnourished” stray cat in home—their next move melts hearts

A heart-wrenching moment showing a cat on the brink of death being rescued by a couple has gone viral on TikTok, amassing over 722,000 views.
Sadie (@sadiesgrant), based in Kempner, Texas, recorded the moment she walked to her door to find a cat laying outside. The on-screen text says, “we saw it was malnourished,” and the feline was refusing to move from the garage door.
The tabby was described as “skinny weak and tired,” so the couple brought her inside, placed her into a carrier, and rushed her to the emergency vet. Seven hundred dollars later, they were told the cat is anemic, has low red blood cells, and had been given fluids, nausea medication, and more to get her through.
The animal-rights nonprofit organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) says that an estimated 60 to 100 million homeless cats live in the U.S. Feral felines are domesticated animals who rely on humans for food, water, shelter, and protection.
PETA adds that cats living on the streets face harsh, short lives and never reach old age naturally. They are vulnerable to contagious diseases such as feline AIDS, leukemia, and herpes viral conjunctivitis. Without veterinary care, even treatable conditions can become fatal.
The text layered over the clip of the lethargic cat reads: “She has a slight chance of passing due to her lab results, but she is not contagious to my indoor pets.”
At the end of the footage, Sadie highlights how lucky the cat is for choosing their house, as they are more than willing to help. More videos have since been uploaded showing Sadie administering medication and the cat becoming a little bit more comfortable in their home.
The July 3 clip caption indicates this isn’t their first time helping a stray, saying: “Another summer with another kitty begging for help. This Texas heat is horrible!”

Unbeknownst to Sadie, catastrophic flooding would strike central Texas the next day as the Guadalupe River surged by more than 20 to 26 feet within 90 minutes, causing widespread devastation and forcing mass evacuations. Newsweek previously reported at least 82 people have died across central Texas, including 28 children.
Less than 24 hours ago, Sadie shared a video of the cat sitting indoors near the window where torrential rain can be seen. The text layered over is written from the feline’s point of view: “when you find a random home to be your shelter as a sickly senior stray right before the Texas hill country floods.”
An Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) press release said the shelter has taken in approximately 100 animals from nearby shelters including Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter and Kerrville Pets Alive! since Friday. Another transport from Hill Country Humane just arrived at APA! with 30 animals.
APA! is expecting more animals today from the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, including about at least 10 cats and another dozen cats and kittens from Kerrville.
As of now, the original video has over 75,000 likes and 700 comments—many users are thanking the couple for saving the sick cat.
“The cat distribution system knows the angels and genuinely good people to help save these poor babies. Thank you for being such a kind person!” posted one user.
Another shared: “I took in a stray 12 [years] ago and never looked back. He learned to live like a king.”
