Last weekend, reports emerged that the Washington Commanders were willing to move on from running back Brian Robinson Jr. in a trade. With the regular season just around the corner, the former third-round pick could be starting a new chapter of his NFL career.
With an array of backfield options on the roster, Washington had some decisions to make. Although he has been a reliable option for the Commanders for the past three years, he ended up being the odd man out. This likely stemmed from the fact that Robinson is set to hit the free agent market at the end of this year.
Less than a week after the initial rumor surfaced, the Commanders appear to have worked out a deal for the dual-threat running back.

Commanders agree to trade running back Brian Robinson to the 49ers
On Friday afternoon, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the latest regarding the Commanders’ RB. He is set to remain in the NFC, as Washington plans to send him to the San Francisco 49ers.
In return for Robinson, the Commanders are set to receive a sixth-round pick in the 2026 draft.
While the framework has been agreed to, there are still some things to be worked out. Schefter noted that Robinson is heading to San Francisco to conduct a physical with the 49ers’ staff. If everything comes back good, the deal will be made official.
