Clubber goes out in Las Vegas, nobody prepared for what’s then found in bag

A bachelorette trip to Las Vegas took a bizarre turn after one woman found a strange magnetic object in her purse following a night out clubbing—an image she later shared to social media that quickly captivated thousands of viewers.

The post, uploaded to Reddit on October 15 by the woman under u/t0po_chica, featured a photo of the item—a silver, glittery, C-shaped plastic object—and immediately drew speculation and over 9,100 upvotes. Speaking to Newsweek, the woman said: “I’m 31-years-old and from Los Angeles, California. We were in Vegas for my bachelorette trip!”

The image was accompanied by a caption that read: “Found this in my bag after a night out in Vegas … Went to a club in Las Vegas and found this small plastic/magnetic piece in my purse. Don’t know how it got there! It’s a small plastic C-shaped object that is magnetic and little bigger than the size of a quarter.”

The post has since triggered widespread speculation, and some banter, on Reddit, with viewers offering theories ranging from commercial retail sensors to possible tracking devices.

“Am I crazy or is it just the world has gone so insane I immediately assumed this was some sort of tracking device for future abduction,” one viewer said, while another added: “You’re not crazy, unfortunately my brain went to the same place.”

Eventually, a viewer figured out where the item was from, and how it might have ended up in the woman’s bag.

“Haha! I know what these are,” the user shared in the comments section. “These are a magnetic lapel pin for enterprise storage company NetApp. They are holding their Insight conference out there right now, started today but folks began arriving yesterday. I have a blue and gold version of this from last year’s conference.”

Several viewers poked fun at how oddly specific the item is.

“I found this unidentifiable [object] in my bag after a bender in Vegas … And it’s promo merch. We really are in a dystopia,” one viewer said. “It could at least be part of an international conspiracy!”

“I’m laughing so hard right now! You need to write a story, or better yet a screenplay, with this as the hook,” another added.

“I was about to say the same. Reddit is so great for random stuff like this, crowd sourced info has its moments,” a third viewer shared.
