AUSTIN (KXAN) — CapMetro is “temporarily suspending service” to its Downtown Station due to construction happening at the Austin Convention Center, a CapMetro spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday.

“The unexpected impact has required the immediate temporary closure of the station today, June 17, 2025, to ensure the public’s safety,” the spokesperson said.

KXAN’s Sam Stark captured photos of the station, which showed part of a convention center wall knocked down in the background. Take a look at those photos below.

“The CapMetro Rail Red Line will temporarily terminate at Plaza Saltillo, and a bus bridge is in place between the two stations, until rail service can safely resume to Downtown Station. We understand the inconvenience this may cause for customers and appreciate patience during this time,” the spokesperson said.

CapMetro said it will notify the public when service resumes at the Downtown Station. To receive those updates in real time, you can sign up for CapMetro alerts.
