Burn ban goes into effect in Bastrop County starting Thursday

BASTROP (KXAN) — A burn ban will be in effect in Bastrop County, Bastrop County Commissioner’s Court records show.

The order, signed by County Judge Gregory Klaus, will be enforced beginning this Thursday through Tuesday, Oct. 14.

Fires reported throughout the period will be investigated by county peace officers. Those found violating the burn ban by a responding officer can be punished by a fine of up to $500. A citation will also be issued for Violation of a Burn Ban order, a Class C Misdemeanor, the order says.

The ban does not apply to food preparation, such as grilling, or burning for agricultural purposes.
