Brigitte Bardot, 91, rushed to hospital with ‘serious’ mystery illness: report

Legendary ‘60s beauty icon Brigitte Bardot was reportedly rushed to the hospital with an unknown illness.

Citing French media outlets, the Daily Mail reported Thursday that the French former actress, 91, came down with a “serious illness” during a stay at her Saint-Tropez home.

The retired actress and model was rushed to a hospital in Toulon. She reportedly remains there recovering from an unspecified surgery.

The French starlet was a sex symbol of the ‘50s and ‘60s, starring in movies such as 1956’s “And God Created Woman,” 1960s “The Truth” and 1965’s “Viva Maria!”

She’s also an animal rights activist.

In 1973, just shy of her 40th birthday, she stepped back from acting.

“Being Bardot” author James Clarke wrote, “There was some exhaustion there, not just from the pace of work, but just [being] the endless subject of a camera lens, whether it’s a still camera lens or a movie lens.”

Her life was dramatized in the 2023 French drama series, “Bardot.”

The series writer-director Danièle Thompson told The Guardian in 2023 that when she reached out to Bardot about the series, “She answered with a very long letter, saying that she was always surprised how unbelievably interested people were in her and did not quite understand why she was not left alone for good.”

Thompson added that the tone of Bardot’s reply was very much, “‘I want to be left alone, I don’t understand why the whole world is still talking about me, I stopped working in movies years ago and I want to take care of my animal cause’ – which is something, of course, that is very important for her now.”

But regarding a series about her life, Thompson said, “I can’t say that she was excited about it. Certainly not.”

This is Bardot’s second major health scare in recent years.

Bargot was previously rushed to the hospital in July 2023 over breathing issues.

Since 1992, she’s been married to her fourth husband, Bernard d’Ormale.

She has one son, Nicolas-Jacques Charrier, from her previous marriage to her second husband, Jaques Charrier, who she was married to from 1959 to 1963.
