Boy, 4, falls sick—mom unprepared for how farm animals react

A 4-year-old boy who came down with the stomach flu received care and attention from an unlikely group this week.

In a clip posted by Abby Morgan (@terryfarm8) shows her sick son bundled in a blanket laying on a wooden bench in a farm stable.

“The animals are used to seeing him nap there but, on this morning, he had been up all night the previous night with the stomach flu and … as soon as I laid him in his normal spot, all of the animals came in and kept checking on him and stayed in there while I milked the cows and watched him sleep,” Morgan told Newsweek.

Morgan, from Nevada, bought a house next to a farm three years ago, and they have been raising the animals together.

She wrote on the text overlay: “My son caught the stomach flu and all of the farm animals were so concerned.”

In the clip, a turkey and cow linger near the little boy, keeping what looked like a gentle bedside watch.

In the caption, Morgan said: “He’s in the barn because he lives on a farm and that means cows need milked and animals need fed every day no matter what.”

She added that leaving her 4-year-old at home while she goes down to the barn wouldn’t be safe.

“The animals always know when he’s not feeling good because it’s the only time he’s not bouncing off the walls and playing with them,” she wrote.

Morgan, who handles the morning chores while her husband works long shifts, said her son typically joins her twice a day to help feed and water the animals.

“My son is sometimes still asleep since it’s so early,” Morgan said. “I carry him down from the house, and he lays there while I milk so I can still see him.”

Morgan said the animals sensed something was wrong. “They have a really good internal clock and even know when I’m a few minutes late to get down to the barn in the morning,” she said. “I think they reacted concerned because they could smell he was sick or they could sense it.”

The clip has been viewed more than 3.5 million times and hundreds commented in awe of the animals’ reactions.

“Imagine being so loved you have a turkey patrol protecting you while you sleep,” one user wrote.

“Oh gosh, can’t get over the concern expressed by fellow animals,” another posted.

Thankfully, Morgan’s son started to feel better right after she filmed the clip and has made a full recovery.

“As soon as my son woke up that morning and saw all of the animals in there near him sleeping, he got up and immediately started playing and he felt all better,” Morgan said.
