Horror at What Woman Finds on Hotel Room Roof: ‘It’s Eggs’

A hotel guest has horrified millions of viewers on TikTok after filming a row of strange, beadlike shapes spreading across her room’s ceiling and asking internet viewers the question no traveler wants to ask: “What is this?”

The short clip, shared by the hotel guest under @tsariiiiiiiii on June 27, has been viewed more than 14 million times and liked by over 379,000 users to date, sparking a flood of speculation from shocked viewers. In the video, the camera pans up to the ceiling where the mysterious formation had appeared, accompanied by an overlaid text reading: “Guys what is this on our hotel roof? It wasn’t here yesterday.” The post was captioned: “Please don’t tell me it’s eggs.”

The discovery quickly became a talking point online, drawing hundreds of comments as people debated what the unnerving trail might be. Several suggested it could be Tokek eggs, while others argued that it looked more like a mud wasp nest. The two theories triggered widespread alarm in the comment section, with viewers imagining what might be hatching above the woman’s hotel bed.

What Are Tokek Eggs?

The term “Tokek” refers to the Tokay gecko, a nocturnal lizard common in parts of Asia and some Pacific islands. Female geckos glue their eggs to ceilings, walls, or other sheltered surfaces, often leaving behind clusters of rounded, beadlike shapes. Hard-shelled and firmly attached, they are typically laid in pairs but can accumulate in small groups—patterns that may resemble what appeared in the viral footage.

Although Tokay geckos are not dangerous to humans, they are among the largest gecko species and are known for their piercing calls and powerful bite when threatened. For those unfamiliar with them, the thought of a reptile nesting in the ceiling was enough to unsettle.

“THOSE ARE TOKEK EGGS,” one viewer had commented, while another added: “I think they’re tokek eggs babe.”

The Mud Wasp Theory

Another explanation offered by TikTok users was that the ceiling shapes resembled a mud wasp nest.

Unlike the papery hives of social wasps, mud dauber wasps build small clusters or tubular structures from mud. These nests are often attached to walls or ceilings and serve as protective chambers for larvae. Inside, the wasp provisions its offspring with paralyzed spiders or insects.

The idea of sleeping under an active nest did little to reassure viewers.

With no confirmation from the hotel or the guest about what the formation turned out to be, the viral post remains open to interpretation. What is certain is that the clip captured the imagination—and anxieties—of millions online.
