18 people injured after 'mass casualty' rollover on Highway 71, officials say

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Eighteen people were injured after a “mass casualty” rollover in Spicewood on Thursday, according to Burnet County ESD 9.

Burnet County ESD 9 – Spicewood Fire Rescue said on social media the rollover crash happened on State Highway 71 at Deerpath Way in Spicewood.

Of those treated, 15 were transported to area hospitals, according to officials.

Multiple agencies — in addition to Burnet County ESD 9 — responded to the crash, including the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office, Marble Falls Area EMS, Marble Falls Fire Rescue, Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department, Marble Falls Police Department, Air Evac Lifeteam 49 in Marble Falls, Horseshoe Bay Fire Department, Careflight 7, Austin-Travis County EMS, Granite Shoals Police Department and the Pedernales Fire Department.

Roads where the crash happened were previously shut down, but Burnet County ESD 9 said roads were back open round 6:20 p.m.

According to Burnet County ESD 9, DPS is the lead agency on this crash. KXAN has reached out to DPS and will update this when more details are received.
