Sauce Gardner Slams NFL Officiating After Loss to Dolphins

Sauce Gardner didn’t hide his feelings or mince words after the New York Jets lost to the Miami Dolphins on Monday night.

The Jets were hoping to come away with their first win of the season, but instead they are now one of three teams in the league that are 0-4. However, Gardner was upset after the game about several calls (or lack of) against the Dolphins.

“I’m personally frustrated,” Gardner told ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “I feel like me personally, us not winning, I watch football all the time and I just feel like — I don’t know if this is wrong to say — but I think I get called for more stuff just based off of us just not winning. I watch these winning programs and there’s some egregious things and it don’t get called, letting the players play.”

Gardner has a point — to an extent. The Jets had a few plays go against them, particularly unnecessary roughness penalties that weren’t called like this one here.

The referees missed this one, and there’s no other way to describe it. The Jets should’ve been given an extra 15 yards at the end of the run. That doesn’t mean it would change the result of the game, though.

Gardner’s comments also don’t make sense for the sole reason that Monday night’s matchup was a battle of two teams that were 0-3. If the Jets were playing a team like the Philadelphia Eagles or the Buffalo Bills, you could maybe understand the point he is trying to make.

His comments may have won him some brownie points with Jets fans for calling out the referees, but they likely also bought him a fine as well.
