Newsom Calls ICE “A Private Army For Donald Trump”

In a livestreamed ceremony to sign California’s so-called Election Rigging Response Act, Governor Gavin Newson sought the lay out the rationale behind the bill, which calls for a Special Election on November 4 to give Californians a vote on redistricting to create five more U.S. House seats. It’s an effort to level the electoral playing field after Texas rewrote its rules to give the GOP five new Congressional seats, at President Trump‘s urging.

As he expressed the urgency of his cause, Newsom made a bold assertion, which he said was “self-evident to anyone with eyes wide open”: ICE is becoming “a private army for Donald Trump.”

Newsom recalled “masked men” descending on Little Tokyo last week and sweeping people away.

“That’s a preview of things to come all across the United States of America,” the governor predicted. “Mark my words, just as we let folks know what was going to happen in other cities, what is happening in Washington D.C. We said two months ago: Los Angeles is a preview of things to come. With the federalization of the National Guard. With the militarization of the streets of America.”

Newsom highlighted the “$175 billion dollars in the bill that was just signed to reinforce the ranks of ICE, Homeland Security, for what is increasingly becoming self-evident, to anyone with eyes wide open and any level of objectivity, a private army for Donald Trump, owing an oath only to him, not the Constitution of the United States.”
