Fever Announce Devastating Sophie Cunningham Injury Update
The Indiana Fever just can’t seem to catch a break.
Already down star guard Caitlin Clark, who’s missed the last four weeks while nursing a right groin injury, plus fellow guards Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson, who both suffered season-ending injuries less than two weeks ago, the Fever and their fans were dealt another gut-punch on Tuesday.
Guard Sophie Cunningham, who was acquired along with the 19th overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft in a four-team offseason trade that sent DiJonai Carrington, NaLyssa Smith and Mikiah Herbert Harrigan to the Dallas Wings, Satou Sabally, Kalani Brown and Sevgi Uzun to the Phoenix Mercury, and the eighth overall pick to the Connecticut Sun, will miss the rest of the season after suffering a right leg injury in Sunday’s 99-93 overtime win over the Sun.
“Sophie Cunningham will miss the remainder of the season after suffering an injury during our game at Connecticut on Sunday,” the Fever announced on social media. “In a corresponding move, we have signed guard Shey Peddy to a 7-day hardship contract and released Kyra Lambert.”

The injury occurred early in the second quarter on what appeared to be accidental contact from Sun guard Bria Hartley, who fell on Cunningham’s leg as she was driving to the lane and attempting to pass the ball to an open teammate.
Cunningham immediately grabbed her leg and hopped around momentarily before falling to the court and screaming in pain. She was helped to the back by the Fever training staff because she couldn’t put weight on her leg.

With the rash of injuries, the Fever are now down to just four healthy guards — Peddy. Lexie Hull, Kelsey Mitchell, and Odyssey Sims.
A second-round pick of the Chicago Sky back in 2012, Peddy, 36, has bounced around the WNBA with stints in Washington, Phoenix, and Los Angeles, and she spent some time overseas playing in both German and Israeli leagues.
In her five-plus year WNBA career, Peddy has averaged 5.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while playing 18.7 minutes per night. She was the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year at Temple, and a two-time Horizon All-Defensive Team selection at Wight State before that.
