Call traced to Pflugerville residence leads to arrest, multiple felony charges

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was arrested Oct. 8 and charged with nine felonies related to an aggravated robbery, kidnapping and sexual assault in Pflugerville.

According to Travis County court documents, 28-year-old Dominic Jamal Rhodes has been charged with the following:

  • two counts of aggravated robbery
  • two counts of aggravated kidnapping
  • aggravated sexual assault
  • burglary habitation intend other felony
  • unlawful restraint of a public servant
  • theft of a firearm
  • tampering/fabricating physical evidence

KXAN has reached out to Rhodes’ attorney. This article will be updated if a statement is received.

Court documents said on Oct. 8, 911 received a call from a woman who said she was being robbed. The call was traced to a residence in the 500 block of Tanner Trail in Pflugerville before being disconnected.

Police responded and saw a man run inside the home through the front door before leaving again through the back door and jumping a fence. That man was later identified by police as Rhodes.

Police spoke with the victims involved in the incident, who said they returned home from a night out and found an unknown man inside. The victims told police the man had a gun, which was pointed at them when he demanded money from the victims.

The affidavit said “the suspect [told the victims] he was glad that there were 2 of them because he could use them as leverage against each other.”

According to police, the victims drove to an ATM, where they withdrew money to give to the man, but he said it wasn’t enough.

After returning to the residence, the victim said the man then had them complete a factory reset on a laptop and “repeat what he said about crossing her heart and hoping to die” regarding it being untraceable.

According to the court documents, the man told one of the victims to leave the room, which was when the other victim was sexually assaulted.

Shortly after the assault, the victim said police were outside the residence, which was when the man ran out the back door.

According to police, Rhodes was found following a search of the area at a vacant home nearby. Police said he matched the description of the man officers saw jumping over the fence of the victim’s residence.

At the time of his arrest, Rhodes had a bag that contained a gun magazine loaded with 15 live rounds. Following a search of the residence, police also found a ski mask, a black Glock 19 9mm pistol that was later determined to be stolen.

Due to the victim’s statement to detectives about the sexual assault, Rhodes’ DNA was collected during the execution of a search warrant.

As of Oct. 16, court records showed Rhodes remained booked in the Travis County Jail on bonds totalling $1 million.
