APD: Man arrested after police seizes 9 pounds of fentanyl, several other drugs


AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 31-year-old man who was accused of selling fentanyl in the Del Valle area was taken into custody, the Austin Police Department said in a Tuesday press release

Brett Garza was arrested on Aug. 14 after police found a large quantity of fentanyl, cocaine and U.S. currency in his vehicle, APD said. Garza’s arrest comes after a tip led to a six-month investigation.

Charges for Garza are pending at this time, according to APD.

In the release, police said Garza was stopped after leaving a residence. APD then executed a search warrant. The following is a combined seizure from his vehicle and residence, according to Austin police.

  • 4 kilograms/ 9 pounds of fentanyl
  • 623 grams / 1.4 pounds of heroin
  • 115 grams of cocaine
  • 2 firearms
  • $9,752 US currency
