Alex Murdaugh’s Lawyers Slam Hulu’s ‘Death In The Family’: “Deeply Disappointed & Disturbed”
As Murdaugh: Death in the Family heads toward its November 19 finale on Hulu, the disgraced patriarch at the center of the true crime story is speaking out.
Alex Murdaugh‘s legal team has said that the convicted murderer “is deeply disappointed and disturbed” by the depiction from creators Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr, accusing them of “numerous inaccuracies” in the series, which has new episodes available Wednesdays on the streamer.
“The program contains numerous inaccuracies and misleading portrayals that distort the truth of their lives,” said Murdaugh’s defense team in a statement shared with the New York Post.
“The depiction of their personal family dynamics is particularly troubling, as it totally mischaracterizes Alex’s relationships with his wife, Maggie, and his son, Paul, both of whom Alex loves so dearly,” they added.
According to Murdaugh’s lawyers, the show’s writers did not contact them or anyone from the Murdaugh family during the development process. “Equally concerning is the lack of engagement by the producers or actors to understand the individuals portrayed,” they said.

“No one from Hulu ever reached out to Alex, his son Buster, anyone in the Murdaugh family or Alex’s attorneys to hear their perspective or verify the facts. Instead, the program appears to rely heavily on sensationalized accounts from secondary sources with no direct knowledge or relationship with him or his family.”
Starring Jason Clarke as the former South Carolina lawyer, Murdaugh: Death in the Family recounts the events around son Paul’s (Johnny Berchtold) deadly boat crash. As the fallout ensues, the family’s connection to multiple mysterious deaths come into focus, threatening Alex’s peaceful existence with wife Maggie (Patricia Arquette).
After Maggie and Paul were shot to death on June 7, 2021, Alex was found guilty of two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, earning two consecutive life sentences without possibility of parole.
