Vandegrift falls short in UIL 6A girls golf state finals

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Vandegrift made its way back to the state finals but fell short to Coppell in the UIL Class 6A girls golf championships at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown.
The Vipers were looking for a three-peat since winning in 2023 and 2024. Coming into the final day, Vandegrift was tied for the lead.

It came down to the wire at the 18th hole, with trios from Coppell, Vandegrift, and Westlake each fighting for a top-3 finish. Coppell pulled away, finishing 31-over-par, three shots ahead of the Vipers. Westlake started the second round in third place, but finished fourth behind Lake Travis. The Cavaliers improved 20 shots on the second day to finish 44-over-par at 620, while the Chaparrals added four shots from their Day 1 total to finish 46-over-par at 622.
As for individual success, Mississippi State commit and Coppell junior Alicia Bellendir finished 2-under par to earn medalist honors. Vandegrift sophomore Michaela Partridge finished in second place, shooting even par for the tournament after a 1-under par 71 on Tuesday.
San Antonio Alamo Heights won the 5A title at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown. Andrews claimed the 4A crown in Kingsland at Legends Golf Club and Odessa Compass Academy ran away with the 3A title at Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Austin.
Mason won the 2A championship at Lions Municipal in Austin by 72 strokes over Spearman, and Garden City overcame Utopia’s first-round lead to win the 1A title at Crystal Falls in Leander.
The boys tournaments are set for May 5-6 at the same courses the girls played. Lake Travis will be back to defend its 2024 state championship.
