AMC Networks is launching a new niche streaming outlet, All Reality, which is living up to its name by focusing entirely on reality programming.
The service will cost $4.99 and be available on a stand-alone basis as an add-on for Prime Video subscribers, with other distribution partnerships to follow.
Courtney Thomasma, EVP of linear and streaming products, told Deadline in an interview that the new service fits with the company’s emphasis on specialty streaming. Already, the company has more than 11 million subscribers to AMC+, Acorn TV, Shudder, Sundance Now, ALLBLK and HIDIVE. Streaming revenue is set to overtake revenue from the company’s linear stable of AMC, IFC, We TV and other cable networks.
AMC Networks has several strong reality franchises, among them Love After Lockup, The Braxtons, Mama June and an all-new expression of Bridezillas, and will use its own first-party IP as the basis of All Reality’s 2,500 hours of programming.
“As we were looking across the marketplace, we saw a white space with reality,” Thomasma said. “We were surprised to see that there hadn’t been a subscription service.” Reality, she added, “has been one of the most durable genres, dominating the Nielsen ratings.”
In streaming, reality has gained more traction of late as cord-cutting continues and viewer habit evolves. Love Island last summer became a phenomenon on Peacock in just one recent example.
AMC Networks’ FAST channel strategy will also play into the launch of All Reality, with four channels included in the offering. Reality content has also driven more than 10 billion minutes of viewership on FAST platforms in the last 12 months, the company said.
