Steelers’ Mike Tomlin Doesn’t Hold Back About Vikings QB …

Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers are set to enter Week 4 NFL action with a 2-1 record after defeating the New England Patriots last week. With future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers leading the way, the Steelers have looked like a potential playoff contender so far this season.

In Week 4, Pittsburgh will take on the Minnesota Vikings. Ahead of that matchup, there is a very intriguing storyline surrounding the Vikings.

J.J. McCarthy, their starting quarterback, will miss another week due to his ankle injury. In his place, veteran signal caller Carson Wentz will get the start. Pittsburgh will look to cool Minnesota down after it dominated the Cincinnati Bengals last week by a final score of 48-10.

Ahead of the big matchup for both teams, Tomlin spoke out and didn’t hold back about the Vikings’ quarterback situation. He clearly respects Wentz and is focused on making sure his team doesn’t overlook the Minnesota passing attack.

“That certainly has our attention,” Tomlin said. “He’s a grizzled veteran. Oftentimes, particularly when you have a young, inexperienced quarterback, there’s some big-time benefits of playing with a vet backup … I don’t necessarily view it as a negative thing for the Minnesota Vikings, at least in the short term, that Carson is playing for them.”

That is a very wise way to look at the upcoming matchup. Thinking that McCarthy not being on the field is a positive for the Steelers would be a very dangerous line of thinking.

Wentz has had plenty of big moments and great performances throughout his career. He led the Vikings to a dominant win last week against the Bengals as previously mentioned.

During that game against Cincinnati, Wentz completed 14 of his 20 pass attempts for 173 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Jordan Mason had a huge game on the ground with 116 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries, averaging 7.3 yards per carry.

Pittsburgh will have its work cut out for it during this week’s game. Wentz is a formidable opponent and Tomlin knows that to be true.

Hopefully, the Steelers will come out strong and will take control of the game from the jump. If they underestimate Minnesota, they could be headed towards a very disappointing loss.
