‘The View’ Again Ignores Jimmy Kimmel & FCC Hot Topics

ABC’s The View continued its two-day hands-off approach to the ABC/Jimmy Kimmel controversy, ignoring what is easily the biggest media story of the week and the type of hot topic The View co-hosts would normally feast on for days.

Nor did The View co-hosts mention a statement made by FCC Chairman Brendan Carr yesterday that his commission should “look into whether The View and some of these other programs that you have still qualify as bonafide news programs.”

As Deadline’s Ted Johnson reported yesterday, were the FCC to deem The View as not exempt from the equal time rule, it would likely face a court challenge, and it also would likely cast doubt on the exemption for talk shows generally.

Today’s episode of The View was moderated by Joy Behar (Whoopi Goldberg has Fridays off) and included co-hosts Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin.

During the opening segment when the co-hosts discuss and debate the Hot Topics of the day, Behar and her co-panelists addressed the recent revelations by Kamala Harris that the former vice president initially would like to have chosen Pete Buttigieg as her running mate in the 2024 race rather than Minnesota Governor Tim Walz but felt the combination of a gay man and Black woman would have been too risky.

Disney-owned ABC hasn’t addressed its decision this week to suspend Kimmel indefinitely after the late night host said, during his Monday Jimmy Kimmel Live! monologue, “We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it.”
