EXCLUSIVE: Production on the upcoming Pakistan Idol has moved to a second stage, with Babar Ikram’s 313 Productions now attached as co-producer.

313 will work with MHL Productions on the adaptation, which is to be for five Pakistani TV networks – details of which haven’t yet been announced. Even so, the show is set to bow on September 27.

Hopes are high for the launch of the Fremantle format, and phase two of the auditions process is now underway. Producers are billing the series “Pakistan’s most ambitious reality project to date,” with Ikram is now overseeing production.

The Pakistani TV industry veteran launched the Karachi-based 313 this past July after eleven years as SVP and Head of Film at Hum Films. He has also worked as Managing Director of Geo TV, which was behind the only previous season of Pakistan Idol, and Aag TV.

“Producing Pakistan Idol is both an honor and a responsibility,” said Ikram. “We are determined to deliver a show that reflects the passion, diversity, and raw talent of Pakistan. From auditions to the grand stage, our team is working tirelessly to ensure the audience experiences the magic of music and storytelling at a truly global standard.”

“The energy and response from contestants during auditions have been phenomenal,” added Zoya Merchant, Director of MHL. “With 313 Productions and Badar Ikram leading the charge, we are confident that Pakistan Idol will not only entertain but also inspire millions of Pakistanis by giving a platform to undiscovered voices.”

Geo TV’s attempt at Pakistan Idol aired in 2013, some six years after the local rights were first acquired.
