Jackson State (1–0) kicked off the season with a strong 28–14 win over Hampton. Running back Ahmad Miller was explosive, rushing for 172 yards and two touchdowns on just ten carries. Southern Miss (0–1) fell 34–17 to Mississippi State in Week 1. Leading receiver Jeffery Pittman contributed 52 yards through the air, though the team’s ground game struggled overall.
