Ex-Bills Wideout Reportedly Retires Just Days Before First Game

The NFL season will kick off Thursday night, with most teams taking the field Sunday. However, one former Buffalo Bills wide receiver has put his new team in a tough position.

The Bills traded for Amari Cooper last year. He was not a superstar with the Bills, but he was a Pro Bowler just a season before they acquired him. Cooper hit free agency after the season and signed with the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Raiders were the team that drafted Cooper in 2015. He signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the team this offseason, but has just revealed he will be retiring, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“Comeback no more: #Raiders WR Amari Cooper has informed the team that he no longer has the desire to play and intends to retire, per The Insiders,” Rapoport reported on X. “Cooper had signed at the end of camp in a hopeful reunion with the team that drafted (him). Now, he’s headed home from Las Vegas.”

Cooper’s time with the Bills was short, but when the team acquired him, it hoped he would be the final piece in a Super Bowl run. Cooper played 10 seasons in the NFL.

Before the Bills, he played for the Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys and Raiders. He was a five-time Pro Bowler and finished his career with 10,033 yards and 64 touchdowns.

His best years came with the Cowboys. He played 56 games for the Cowboys and had over 3,800 yards for the team.
