Austin car break-in suspect sentenced in another case

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A woman who was among those accused of breaking into cars at Austin parks is serving time for a separate case, according to Travis County court documents.

In March, Austin police announced they arrested Jai Ana Smith, 27, and eight others in connection with February car break-ins, and said officers were able to recover stolen items.

Smith faced a charge of engaging in organized criminal activity, but the Travis County Attorney’s office rejected those charges because she was sentenced in another case, according to court documents.

In May 2024, she was accused of burglary of a habitation. She pleaded guilty in that 2024 case in July of this year and received a two-year prison sentence, according to sentencing paperwork.
