Manhattan prosecutors have responded to claims from Luigi Mangione‘s defense team that they were “plainly lying” on a subpoena to illegally access their client’s medical records.
Attorneys for Mangione, who is accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, said the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office obtained over 120 pages of private medical data from Aetna without the court or defense team’s knowledge. They also complained that the prosecutors had made up a fake court date for the subpoena which was months ahead of the real one.
In a letter to the judge, sent Friday, assistant district attorney Joel Seidemann blamed Aetna for releasing the sensitive medical information which he said had been outside the remit of the subpoena’s request.
